Hotel Opus XVI Remodelling Project with a Protected Façade
Introduction
Liftroller Wall has been used in several hotel remodelling projects, including the transformation of Opus XVI—The Edvard Grieg Heritage Hotel in Bergen.
This historic building, originally a bank from 1876, posed unique logistical challenges due to its protected façade.
Project Overview
- Project: Hotel Opus XVI
- Type: Rehabilitation and remodelling from a bank to a hotel
- Contractor: Kruse Smith AS
- Location: Bergen city centre
Protected Facade and Interior
The building’s façade, ground floor, and stairwells are historically significant and protected, necessitating careful handling during renovations.
The Liftroller Wall model was chosen for its ability to facilitate material transport without damaging the structure.
Custom Adaptations
To accommodate the building’s decorative and uneven surfaces, custom adaptations were made.
The Liftroller Wall’s outer plate, with pre-perforated holes, allowed for wooden adjustments to ensure a smooth attachment surface.
This solution maintained the historical integrity of the façade while meeting the National Heritage Board’s preservation guidelines.
